Google pumps out another, Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition now available

Google’s on a roll today with its device releases on the Play Store today. We already have the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play editionand the new white Nexus 7 2013available for purchase, and now Google has partnered with Sony to release the Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition.

This device is huge, bearing a 6.4-inch display with a 1920×1080 resolution. It features a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with a microSD slot, an 8MP rear Exmor RS sensor, a 2MP front facing camera, a 3,000 mAh battery, and of course KitKat. It’s also super thin, at only 6.5mm. Unfortunately, the price is quite steep at $649.

This device is fully carrier unlocked with support for both AT&T and T-Mobile, LTE included. It’s also bootloader unlocked, as Google Play edition devices always are, giving you the freedom to do what you want. And of course, as with all Google Play edition devices, updates should come fast. Looking back at the current GPe devices, updates have come very fast. It’s Sony hardware with the stock Android experience, something we haven’t seen before and are excited to try for ourselves. Do you like the Sony Z Ultra GPe? Can the price of $649 be justified? Leave a comment!

Android 4.4.4 update is now available for the Google Play edition Moto G

Google Play edition Motorola Moto Gowners are getting a treat today in the form of an over the air update to Android 4.4.4.

As far as updates go, Android 4.4.4 is pretty boring. There are no new features or major changes, but it’s important nonetheless, packing in Android 4.4.4 a handful of security and bug fixes that should make you glad to be a stock Android user.

In true Google Play edition fashion, the Moto G GPe’s 4.4.4 updated is close behind the updates sent out to the Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 recently. We still don’t know if the Moto G will be updated to Android L, slated to be released this fall, but with the way Motorola has been killing it with updates recently we would be surprised if the device wasn’t updated.

If you haven’t already been prompted to download the Android 4.4.4 update on your Google Play edition Moto G, you should be shortly.

Apple Maps still might not be the best mobile mapping service available for the iPhone , but Apple

READ MORE: After more than two years, Apple still needs your help fixing Apple Maps

However, the endeavor wasn’t entirely unsuccessful as the team made an interesting discovery. In the rejection letter, Apple noted that businesses with less than 1,000 locations might want to try going through Apple’s current partners, a list that includes ten names we’ve never seen before.

It was already public knowledge that Factual, Neustar/Localeze and Yelp were providing data to Apple’s mapping service, but this is the first time Apple has “publicly” confirmed its new partners since launching Apple Maps Connect.

As 9to5Mac notes, this is not the complete list of partners, known or (likely) unknown, but it is a clear indication that Apple is continuing to work on making Apple Mapsan attractive alternative to Google’s popular app.
